Sam Curran’s New Replacement for CSK – Dominic Drakes

2 min read

Due to the sudden and unfortunate lower back injury on Tuesday, Sam Curran has been ruled out of the T20 World cup series and IPL in UAE. Fans in yellow were disappointed at the incident. Sam Curran is one of the essential players of CSK and has been excellent with both bat and ball in the first leg of the Indian Premier League.

As a replacement for this young lad, the Barbados all-rounder, Dominic Drakes has been brought in to play the remaining few games of the second leg of this IPL 2021.

Drakes has been a part of the Mumbai Indians team as the net bowler. In the last match against Punjab Kings on Thursday, the Chennai Super Kings brought in Drakes as a replacement for Sam Curran who has been injured. CSK fans are hoping that the left-arm all-rounder could make a difference in the team with both bat and ball.

Earlier, Drakes was part of the Caribbean Premier League 2021 winning party, St Kitts and Nevis Patriots which was captained by CSK’s all rounder, Dwayne Bravo. During this season in CPL, the left arm bowler picked 16 crucial wickets in 11 games for the Kitts. However, his contribution with the bat was phenomenal after hitting an unbeatable 48 runs in 24 balls against the ferocious St Lucia Kings. At that match, he was also awarded the Player of the Match. He has picked up 20 wickets in 19 T20 games played and has scored 153 runs with a strike rate of 159.37.

In the meantime, Curran was not in his best form for the Super Kings in the UAE leg. His session with the ball was poor after leaking 56 and 55 runs in the last two fixtures he played against the Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals without taking any wickets. On a wider perspective, Curran has only picked up 9 wickets in 9 fixtures with an economy rate of 9.93 scoring a total of 56 runs in 4 innings.
