The Afghanistan spinner, Rashid Khan has walked away from his captaincy for the upcoming T20 World Cup tournament 2021 at UAE and Oman. The news spread like wildfire as the leg-spinner will not be captain for the national team as he was reported to say that the selection board did not consult him during the selection process.
However, Rashid announced his decision officially in his Twitter after the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) announced the playing XI for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2021.
“As the captain and responsible person for the nation I reserve the right to be part of the selection of the team. The selection committee and ACB have not obtained my consent for the team which has been announced by ACB media,” Rashid said.
“I am taking the decision of stepping down from the role as the captain of Afghanistan T20 side effective immediately. It’s always my pride playing for Afghanistan,” Rashid further stated.
On Thursday, the ACB officially announced the squad of the Afghanistan national team. It was deep as a full-power packed squad had been selected. Rashid was appointed to lead the team but he shocked everyone with his drastic decision. Due to the political turmoil, Rashid was not happy after the chaos of Taliban taking over control.
Rashid Khan was not elated about the situation and had pleaded with everyone to remain at peace in the country.
Playing XI: Rashid Khan (Captain), Rahmanullah Gurbaz (Wicket Keeper), Hazratullah Zazai, Usman Ghani, Asghar Afghan, Mohammad Nabi, Najibullah Zadran, Hashmatullah Shahidi, Mohammad Shahzad (Wicket Keeper), Mujeeb ur Rahman, Karim Janat, Gulbadin Naib, Naveen ul Haq, Hamid Hassan, Sharafudding Ashraf, Dawlat Zadran, Shapoor Zadran, Qais Ahmad.
Substitute: Afsar Zazai, Farid Ahmad Malik.
The Afghanistan Cricket Board must have a talk with Rashid to sought out things between them. However, things between ACB and Rashid Khan must not affect the performance of the team. Hoping the team comes out in flying colors after all the troubles they have been through this year.
