Bumrah Reveals Why he Didn’t Bowl as Per Dhoni’s Instructions in Death Overs On his Debut ODI

1 min read

India’s one of the best strike bowler, Jasprit Bumrah breaks the news what Dhoni had disclosed him after his debut bowling for the Indian Cricket team against Australia in the year 2006 at Sydney.

Bumrah was selected only for the final match of the ODI series (5th) and there was no scope of winning since India had already lost all the previous matches played in this series. Jassi said that Dhoni refused him from bowling yorkers in death overs since Dhoni had never seen him bowl before.

The striker was elated that he made his debut under Dhoni’s captaincy and he boosted up his confidence level and gave him lot of freedom. Bumrah also said that it was his captain’s decision and it was to be respected and followed.

Although Dhoni disapproved to bowl Yorkers in death overs, Bumrah was totally confused on how to bowl in his debut. He bowled on his own and later on Dhoni came to him and said that if he had come earlier, they would have won the series.

“I told him ‘in death overs, I don’t know what else to do’. So anyway, I went ahead and did my thing and then he came to me and was like ‘I didn’t know this at all. You should’ve come earlier, we would’ve won the whole series,’” Bumrah added. Also, Mumbai Indian’s gun fast bowler said that he is looking forward to play along with New Zealand’s thunderbolt, Trent Boult and also added that expectations are always high when you play for a franchise like Mumbai Indians and players have to increase their performance level.
