Ashish Nehra Chooses Devdutt Padikkal as the Next RCB Captain

2 min read

In the IPL 2021, Virat Kohli has done quite a good job for the Royal Challengers Bangalore. As the RCB team has already qualified for the playoffs, the announcement from Virat Kohli for stepping down from the captaincy from the next IPL season has hit the fans hard. However, Kohli will still be part of the team and will be one of the best batsmen of RCB. There have been talks on who will replace Kohli and the veteran bowler Ashish Nehra and he has come up with a brilliant answer.

Well, this team is well equipped with few experienced players like Chahal, AB de Villiers, Glenn Maxwell. Ashish Nehra was reported to say, “Devdutt Padikkal has the ability to lead the Royal Challengers Bangalore team effectively. If the team is looking for a player as the captain for a long time, then they will have to hand over the captaincy to Padikkal.”

According to the veteran, only Devdutt Padikkal seems to be the best option from his point of view considering his performance in domestic cricket. Padikkal has excelled with an amazing 822 runs in 26 IPL fixtures and has also bagged an unbeatable century.

Royal Challengers Bangalore lost the game against the Sunrisers Hyderabad. After their terrible loss, Virat Kohli said, “I don’t think so, the intent has to be to try and get it done as soon as possible. We don’t want to stretch these games too deep, but having lost a couple of early wickets, rebuilding was the key. Maxi’s run out was the game changing moment in terms of momentum and Maxi was in the zone to get a couple of big overs. With AB you are never out of the game, but it is about making sure that the guy who is in flow is on strike in the crucial moments. We had a good first half with the ball but not as effective with the bat chasing that down. Shahbaz played a crucial knock at that stage, it was a game of small margins, I think Sunrisers held their nerve and bowled out their last few deliveries pretty well to not allow us to get us those big hits we were looking for.”
